School is back in session, but GM Design has been highlighting several projects from their interns. One of them is this eye-catching GMC Hummer HEV Peak concept, which was penned by Sun Hao and recently featured on the company’s Instagram page.
The GM China intern created a futuristic two-door SUV that would presumably challenge the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. In effect, it’s a modern day version of the Hummer HX concept, which debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.
As you can see, the concept features a familiar front fascia that draws inspiration from the current GMC Hummer EV lineup. The model also sports an upright windshield, heavily stylized fenders, and a flat roof.

More notably, the concept has unique doors that appear to be fully glass. However, this is just an illusion as the interior images show two different setups. One has traditional lower door panels, while the other has a central ‘beam’ with glass above and below.
Speaking of the cabin, it’s minimalist and high-tech as we can see an oval-shaped steering wheel with an integrated display. It’s joined by a second widescreen display, which sits on top of the dashboard and presumably acts as an infotainment system and passenger display.
The Hummer HEV Peak concept is certainly cool and it made the leap from computer screens to a scale model. It has received a lot of praise online, and hopefully the attention will get GMC thinking about expanding the Hummer lineup to include more affordable models.
